WHAT IS VOLUNTARY REPATRIATION?

Voluntary Repatriation programs provide aid and support to foreign citizens returning to their country of origin.  The foreigner must fulfil certain requirements in order to qualify for these programs. These programs are funded by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security through the Secretary General of Immigration and Emigration and the Department of Migration.

These programs are normally managed by specialized non-governmental organizations for immigrants.  Their purpose is to guarantee the foreigner a satisfactory reintegration, offering support to increase their social and labor opportunities in their home country.

Some of these programs for example are directed at foreigners who want to undertake a business project in their country of origin and who are looking for assistance in doing so upon their return.

It is possible for non- EU member citizens returning to their home country to receive unemployment benefits if they fulfil the necessary requirements.  They may even receive payment cumulatively and in advance.  If and when all requirements are fulfilled, the payment will be made in two instalments.
