The first option is to motion for an appeal before the body that denied the renewal request. Administration gives applicants one month to file the appeal. This route is usually effective in cases where there was a error made by administration when reviewing the file. If the cause of rejection is due to something else, then it is difficult to tell if the renewal will have a favorable result the second time around.
The second option is to submit a contentious-administrative appeal, initiating legal proceedings before the contentious-administrative court. This appeal may be submittied up to two months after being notified of the renewal rejection. However, it is advisable to contact a lawyer as soon as you receive the notification so as not to miss the deadline. It is possible to request precautionary measures of the court which would allow the applicant to reside and work in Spain until the court has reached a decision regarding the the status of the residence and work permit renewal.
