Spanish nationality acquisition procedures were established by immigration standards. They are conditional on the fulfillment of terms of residence on Spanish territory. Terms and conditions vary depending on the circumstances, characteristics and foreigner´s country of origin. On top of aforementioned information, the law stresses the importance of proving civic conduct and sufficient integration into Spanish society. To demonstrate such integration into Spanish society, the applicat must take a an exam, or test, that consists of a number of questions regarding culture, history, and the society of our country. It is understood that one´s ability to answer such questions will accredit the foreigner´s integration in Spain.
The Civil Registries are responsable for the nationality exam as they are considered the most competent in handling the nationality applications and treat it more as a process than a file. These registries are in charge of preparing the questions and later evaluating and assessing the applicant's answers.
